When traveling out west isn’t an option, Midwest ski resorts offer a solid alternative for Chicago-based shredders. Sure, you Powder Hounds might have to settle for less "pow," but that doesn’t mean you can’t find great runs and good vibes.

Last year, I was lucky enough to carve turns at some of the best Western slopes—Park City, Heavenly, and Vail were all on my list. This year, the budget’s a little tighter, so I’m trading the Rockies for road trips. That’s right—it’s all about exploring the Midwest ski scene. From family-friendly hills to challenging terrain, these resorts deliver accessible, budget-friendly skiing within driving distance of Chicago.
