Review: Mammoth Hot Springs Campground in Yellowstone.

Mammoth Hot Springs Campground, located in the northern reaches of Yellowstone National Park, offers a distinctive camping experience surrounded by the geothermal marvels of Mammoth Hot Springs. This campground, the only open year-round in Yellowstone, provides a unique juxtaposition of natural beauty and human history, with the historic Fort Yellowstone nearby. The 85 sites, suitable for tents and RVs, are nestled amidst towering Douglas fir and juniper trees, providing a serene atmosphere. While amenities are limited, the allure of Mammoth's terraced, calcium-rich hot springs and travertine formations beckons just a short distance away. With its prime location and year-round accessibility, Mammoth Hot Springs Campground is a excellent base for exploring the best of northern Yellowstone.

Distance from Mammoth Campground to top 5 Yellowstone features.

It is hard to see everything in Yellowstone. While you are here, you want to know how far you might have to travel to get to some. Remember, Yellowstone is as big as some of our states.

Grand Prismatic Spring

  1. Hayden Valley: If you go left out of the camp, you are 41.8 miles from seeing some of the best wildlife.

  2. Grand Canyon of Yellowstone: 37 miles from camp if a feature you can spend all day at. This was our last stop on this side of the loop. Then we went back the way we came to see some features we missed on the way up.

  3. Old Faithful: 52.5 miles from camp from the right of the campground entrance. You can spend a whole day here. The Old Faithful Inn is a must-see too.

  4. Upper Geyser Basin: 52 miles from the campground, the basin is a part of the Old Faithfull experience. If you walk past Old Faithful, you walk a path of geysers, mud pots, hot springs, fumaroles, and travertine terraces.

  5. Grand Prismatic Spring: 47 miles from the campground is the prettiest organic part of our earth I have ever seen. The colors are just outstanding there. On your walk to the spring, you will pass other springs with gorgeous blues.
